East Brown Cow Announces Hospitality Properties Named Among Condé Nast Traveler’s “Best 15 Hotels in Portland”

East Brown Cow is thrilled to share that The Docent's Collection and Hyatt Place Portland - Old Port have both been named to Condé Nast Traveler’s recent “Best 15 Hotels in Portland” list.

Released in May, the list was independently curated by Condé Nast Traveler’s editorial staff. Each hotel selected was reviewed by a journalist who personally stayed at that property, considering hotels from a range of price points that “offer an authentic and insider experience of a destination, keeping design, location, service, and sustainability credentials top of mind.” The inclusion of both Hyatt Place Portland - Old Port and The Docent’s Collection is a testament to East Brown Cow’s commitment to push the limits of excellence within the hospitality industry.

Hyatt Place Portland - Old Port received accolades for its ideal location, citing that it is “steps from almost anything you want in the Old Port.” Located at 433 Fore Street in the heart of the Old Port, the hotel stands seven stories high, includes 130 rooms, and features an indoor pool, meeting room, and café. Opened to patrons in May 2014, Hyatt Place Portland - Old Port was the first ground-up development completed by East Brown Cow. The hotel sits on a 19,130 SF footprint, formerly used as a surface parking lot, and is a successful infill project that boasts spectacular views and thoughtful design. Its design intent was to respect the historic differences found within Portland’s setting yet celebrate a new, modern architecture.

The Docent’s Collection, a newer hospitality project owned and developed by East Brown Cow, was also lauded for its proximity to “the best of what Portland has to offer” - along with mentioning its unique approach of providing “all the amenities of a hotel combined with the feel of home.” Initially introduced as “121 MIDDLE” in 2019 following an extensive historic rehabilitation at 121 Middle Street, this boutique hospitality offering was renamed as The Docent’s Collection in 2022 to accommodate its expansion throughout Portland’s Old Port. Presenting a distinctive approach to travel, The Docent’s Collection fuses the first-class hospitality of a hotel stay with modern, mobile-first service and personalized amenities more typically associated with a luxury residential rental. Other offerings within The Docent’s Collection are located at 115 Middle Street, with upcoming additions underway at 178 Middle Street and 184 Middle Street.
